Jack is a happy, active 10yr old lab springer mix. With the changes of divorce, active toddler and a move to an apartment his family reached out SSRI in hopes of finding him a forever home with older children or someone who wants to take him for long walks or runs. Jack is walking four miles a day. He has no problem with stairs.
Jack has been known resource guard food. He has been sharing his foster home with a young male springer. Jack shows signs of being the alpha dog but redirects easily. He so wants to be loved. He is crate trained (wire and plastic). He will sleep in a crate at night. He is house trained (no marking). Can’t be locked up in a kennel all day…needs access to a back yard.
He knows basic commands, sit, down, come. He walks with a Wonder Walker. If he sees you put your coat on he is ready to go (car ride or walk). He does have a prey drive. He will need training to not pull at the sight of a squirrel.
A deep bark will alert you to passerby. A protest howl has been heard when humans leave the house. A quick surprise return with a “knock it off” stops it.
Jack is eating a chicken and rice senior diet and taking a glucosamine supplement. He is learning to take treats with a more gentle way.
His foster mom thinks he would be happy as an only dog or join a dog family with proper pack leadership, until he learns he’s home. He is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and just completed a senior checkup.
