ADOPTED- Meet Rusty
Look at this charming face! Hi, my name is Rusty. I am currently in COLORADO. My foster dad says that I am a typical two-year-old; that I have a lot of energy and am very friendly to people and with other dogs. I am housetrained; I have not had any accidents in the house, and I only chew on my toys. I get along great with my foster brother and am learning to get along with my foster sister, though my foster dad says that it is her issue, not mine.
I am a Field Springer, so I have a strong hunting instinct and love to chase birds, squirrels, and rabbits. I do have to admit that I get really excited when I see these critters outside and I bark at them - I save my really high squeal bark for them. Due to my strong prey drive, I don’t think I would be good at sharing my house with a cat.
Prior to coming into the rescue, I spent all my time outside or in a kennel, but I have made a very positive adjustment to living in a house. I am fully up to date on all my vaccinations, am heartworm negative and was recently neutered. I know a few commands and will sit, shake your hand, lay down and roll over if you ask me. I also like to play fetch and I love my twice daily walks, though I’m still learning to walk on a leash. You see I never had to do that before as I spent all my time outside on the farm or in my kennel. I need to learn how not to pull and not to bark at other dogs out walking with their human. My foster dad also says that I am eager to please and am incredibly affectionate. I got in trouble recently for counter surfing, but have only done it one time and know that I will need some help in not doing this again.
The best fit for me would be in a home where there is someone at home most of the time and there is another dog I could play with. Real small children (under 12) would not be ideal. Oh, did I mention that I am AKC registered?
